Our Story
Out The Back is a small Tasmanian owned wood craft business offering natural, creative and functional pieces for everyday living: to compliment the best cooking and dining experience.
Each piece comes to life out the back of Campania, a community in the Coal River Valley wine region of southern Tasmania. The focus is on exploring new perspectives on functionality whilst using quality, speciality Tasmanian recycled timbers.
The beauty of Tasmanian Blackwood, Blackheart Sassafras, Tasmanian Myrtle, Tasmanian Blue Gum, Celery Top Pine, Huon Pine and other minor species is reflected in each handmade item.
A lifelong passion for the environment and land management led my partner into horticulture and with it an opportunity to move Out the Back …. of Campania to be precise, where he balances his love for propagation and sustainable environmental practices, with creating quality and sustainable woodcraft from many Tasmania timbers. Today Out the Back, of Campania, you will find him handcrafting signature woodcraft that will find its way its many homes around Australia and overseas.
With a focus on style and functionality, we honour our belief in creating Tasmanian woodcraft from recycled timbers: each can be simply cared for and the creative designs will add style to your dining experience.
This passion has grown into a sustainable, yet personalised small business operating since 2004, specialising in creative and functional wood products that reflect consumer interests and tastes for both food preparation and serving in the entertaining space. We can often be found on a Saturday at Hobart’s iconic Salamanca Market.
Out the Back also supports other Tasmanian craftspeople that provide products that complement our unique array of cooking and serving products.
